Agistri

Where to stay in Agistri

Almost all of the accommodation sits on the two kilometres of north coast between Skala and Megalochori, so the real decision is a small one. Skala has the widest choice, the beach on the doorstep, the ferries and what passes for nightlife here, which amounts to a couple of bars with terraces. The cost is that it is the noisiest and most crowded corner of the island in August. Megalochori is two kilometres away and calmer, more Greek in feel, with smaller family-run places and generally better value, though you will want a bike or the bus for the beaches on the south side. Limenaria and the Skliri end offer isolation and very thin choice. Wherever you land, book weeks ahead for summer: the island is tiny, the stock is limited, and weekend demand from Athens is relentless.
