What to do in Aegina
The question we were asked most before going was "but is there really anything to do in Aegina for two days?". The short answer is yes, and more than we expected. Aegina combines a first-rate archaeological site (the [Temple of Aphaia](/islands/aegina/temple-of-aphaia/), one of the best preserved in Greece), a major pilgrimage site ([Agios Nektarios](/islands/aegina/agios-nektarios/)), an abandoned medieval town ([Paleochora](/islands/aegina/paleochora/)) and several decent family beaches. Add a boat trip to the islet of Moni and a visit to a pistachio farm and you fill two days without trying.

Boat trip to the island of Moni from Perdika
A short caique crossing from the Perdika jetty to the uninhabited island of Moni. A nature reserve with goats and peacocks, turquoise water, snorkelling and a picnic on an untouched beach.

Hiking Mount Oros, the highest peak in the Saronic Gulf
The climb up Mount Oros (532 m), the highest peak in the Saronic, with the ruins of the sanctuary of Zeus Hellanios and views to Athens, Hydra and the Peloponnese. A waymarked path, 2-3 hours there and back.
Tour of an Aegina pistachio farm with tasting
A guided visit to an organic pistachio orchard in Kypseli, with a product tasting and an explanation of the harvest. The chance to try PDO pistachios straight from the farm.
