Where to stay in Poros

Nearly all the beds are in Chora, the town on Sferia, and for most visitors that is right: everything is walkable, the bus and the water taxis leave from there, and the shuttle to the mainland runs from seven in the morning until past midnight. The trade-off is that Chora is a town, not a beach, so swimming means a short trip out. Askeli, over on Kalavria, is the alternative for anyone who wants to walk out of the door onto sand, at the cost of relying on the bus or a scooter after dark. Neorio to the west is quieter again and thinner on choice. A genuine option many people miss is staying in Galatas on the Peloponnese, often cheaper and useful if you have a car, since parking in Chora in August is grim. You do not need a car on Poros at all.
